Katie Drenga creates in a quaint studio in Takoma park MD where all her found junk is transformed in to art and lovely things for the home.
Katie Drenga is an artist raised in the DMV with old world thinking...
Heres more on her life and process in Katie's words:
"Growing up very close to my Great-Aunt who survived the Great Depression I learned early on that most times you don't have to throw something away just because you're "over it." My Aunt was also a borderline hoarder, so to curb that life style I've adapted the mantra reuse repurpose re-cycle in to my art making and daily life. I try to use aspects of found objects in my art, such as vintage fabric that I've fallen in love with but has a few holes. Instead of rendering it useless and tossing it, I cut it up in to shapes and sew them in to a quilt or pillow. However 'saving supplies' and hoarding supplies can be a dangerously thin line. In order to keep whats only necessary on my works in progress, I try to arrange monthly art supply swaps (wanna join?! more info posted here) or donations to local community programs like Sitar Arts Center in Adams Morgan and Goodwill of the greater DMV area."
Katie attended school at the Corcoran College of Art + Design and received a Bachelors of Fine Art in 2011. She has been creating in the Nations Capital ever since.
